Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is live · now required for qualifying income over £50,000
Make short work of tax.

Tax, done by the second cuppa.

Swiftmore is filing software for UK sole traders and landlords. Send your four MTD quarterly updates and your Self Assessment straight to HMRC from one place — no spreadsheets, no accountant, no January scramble.

The swiftmore home screen for a sole trader: a Records plan chip, a card saying pick up where you left off with an open button, two tax-year files in progress, and a tax dates list with the Self Assessment registration and quarterly update deadlines counted down in days.

Making Tax Digital started on 6 April 2026.

It arrives in stages, set by your qualifying income — gross self-employment and property income, before expenses. How the rules work

  1. Filing now Over £50,000 6 April 2026 measured on your 2024–25 return
  2. From 2027 Over £30,000 6 April 2027 measured on your 2025–26 return
  3. From 2028 Over £20,000 6 April 2028 measured on your 2026–27 return

One tax year. One clear place to run it.

Your quarterly updates and your annual return draw on the same records. Swiftmore keeps them in one place so the year end is a review, not a rebuild.

Making Tax Digital

Quarterly updates without the quarterly grind

Four times a year HMRC wants a summary of your income and expenses. Swiftmore keeps the records as you go, then sends the update — you review a single page and press submit.

  • Digital records in HMRC-ready categories
  • Every deadline dated, not just described
  • Review the whole quarter on one page
  • Nothing sent until you approve it

For the people MTD lands on first.

Not accounting software with a tax tab bolted on. A filing experience designed around how sole traders and landlords actually work.

Sole traders

Self-employed?

Swiftmore tracks your business income and allowable expenses, files your four quarterly updates, and carries the year into your SA100 with the self-employment pages (SA103) completed.

Landlords

Renting out property?

Track rent and costs property by property, file each quarter, and finish the year with your UK property pages (SA105) ready to submit.

What you get for it.

Your quarters build your tax return. Swift
Every update you file through the year adds to the same record. At year end you check and confirm what is already there instead of starting the return from scratch.
You always know the number. Sure
A running estimate of the tax you owe updates as you categorise, so the figure in January is one you have watched all year rather than one that arrives.
Written in English, not HMRC. Plain-spoken
Swiftmore asks ordinary questions about money you have earned and spent, then fills the right boxes behind the scenes. You never need to know which page a figure belongs on.

From records to filed, without the detour.

Four quarterly updates and one annual return. Each one is the same four steps, and none of them asks you to think like an accountant.

Current step

Bring in the numbers

Connect or add the income and expenses that belong in this quarter.

Imported bank rows in swiftmore, each with a date, description, amount and an HMRC expense category already chosen: software subscriptions under phone, internet, software and office, fuel under car, van and travel, and client payments marked money in and left out.

Free until you file.

The questions people ask first.

If something here is still unclear, tell us — unclear answers are a bug.

Your four MTD quarterly updates, and your Self Assessment return — the SA100 with the self-employment (SA103) or UK property (SA105) pages attached. Not company accounts, not VAT, not payroll.

No. Accounting software gives you a ledger and expects you to know what to do with it. Swiftmore only does the two filings HMRC requires of you: it asks ordinary questions about money you have earned and spent, and turns the answers into the right boxes.

Then take Self Assessment on its own. If your income later crosses the MTD threshold, the records you have already built carry over — you do not start again.

Swiftmore is built to submit MTD for Income Tax quarterly updates and Self Assessment. Our current recognition status is on the About page, and we will not claim it here until it is listed by HMRC.

Know what’s due. Know the number. File.
